Those who love sport must feel at the forefront in finding solutions that start from the personal sphere and become planetary.

Fifty years ago, on the initiative of a group of friends, the Stramilano was born, one of the first sporting events dedicated to running enthusiasts. Since 1972, the Stramilano has been one of the events with the highest number of participants in the world. The event, called of the fifty thousand, has reached over fifty-five thousand people taking part in one edition. Every year, enthusiasts meet under the Duomo for a day of celebration, friendship and sport. A river of people crosses the city, its streets, its squares and its parks. It is a ritual that is repeated every spring, rich in social and sporting content.
The Stramilano is a cross-cutting event where all social classes and all professional categories are represented. Participants from all over Italy and over 100 countries from all over the world meet in Milan: The Run Generation. It is together this pulsating group of people who once a year choose to take to the streets and start running, together, with nothing at stake, to demonstrate that even an unstoppable city like Milan can become the stage for a splendid moment of sport and sociality.

The Stramilano Half Marathon is a half marathon race (21,097 km) reserved for FIDAL registered athletes, who have the opportunity to run alongside the champions of the specialty. It represents one of the most important road running events in the international calendars of Fidal (Italian Athletics Association) and World Athletics. It has boasted the best world performance over the distance, a result achieved in 1993 by Moses Tanui with a time of 59’47”, surpassed in 1998 by the Kenyan Paul Tergat with a time of 59’17”, a world record that remained unbeaten for eight years. In 2016, James Mwanji Wangari set a new record for the event with a time of 59’12”. The route of the Milanese race is very fast and lends itself to excellent results, including reconquering the world record. For many enthusiasts, it is an opportunity to test themselves on a flat and fast route, trying to set their own personal best.
Stramilano is not just running, but many other initiatives. The values it embodies are obviously those related to sport, nutrition and well-being. Particular attention is always paid to others and solidarity.
For nine days it will be active in Piazza del Duomo, a meeting place, registration center and exhibition point. The Stramilano Center is a common home where sport and social life come together.
Special attention is paid to young people with initiatives reserved for students and the involvement of schools in Milan and the Province.
Stramilano has always supported solidarity associations with initiatives that feature the elderly, children, the sick and all those in need. It will continue to do so on all fronts.
